Rode NTH-100 M

Overall a great purchase. Good to pair it with a good DAC and amp. Extremely comfortable.

Limited connectivity options through its 3.5mm jack splitter lets down the otherwise excellent Rode NTH-100M gaming headset. While the microphone is a cut above the rest, the limited use makes it hard to recommend at this price.

The Røde NTH-100M are over-ear headphones with a modular microphone component NTH-Mic. The boom arm of the mic adds an omnidirectional condenser microphone to the NTH-100 . The handling of these headphones is consistently agreeable and the sound is direct and “natural”. As convincing as the microphone’s vocal sound is, the headphones’ speech intelligibility is also good. Together with good passive sound suppression, they are therefore suitable both as headphones for content creation and for video conferencing, but without a microphone, they also perform well as a tool for recording.

The RØDE NTH-100 are satisfactory for neutral sound. They have a warm, round overall sound profile that delivers a bit of extra boom to mixes. For closed-backs, their bass lacks a bit of thump and rumble, though. Vocals and instruments are also recessed in mixes, so they sound weak, while sibilants like cymbals are veiled. That said, some people may still prefer the mellowness of the mids and treble, especially if you're using these cans for long mixing sessions, as this underemphasis can help reduce ear fatigue over time. That said, they have difficulty creating an out-of-head and spacious passive soundstage, although it's partially due to their closed-back design.
