Review: Dragon’s Crown Pro – De niche Japanse ontwikkelaar Vanillaware heeft slechts een handvol titels op haar c.v. staan. Titels die stuk voor stuk bol staan van beeldschone handgetekende graphics en die door velen beschouwd worden als ware kunstwerkjes. In 2013 gooide Dragon’s Crown voor de PlayStation 3 en de PlayStation Vita hoge ogen doordat de game verschillende genres succesvol samensmolt met als gevolg een batterij aan positieve reviews. De oorspronkelijke release van Dragon’s Crown heeft het dermate goed gedaan dat Vanillaware de oorspronkelijke broncode heeft afgestoft en de game een 4K upgrade heeft gegeven. Is de game nog steeds de moeite waard anno 2018?

Cubed3 Rating Prepare to be hooked all over again in this Vanillaware classic that might not have the story to match the developer's other top game, Odin Sphere , but finds a way to combine genres and ensure multiplayer becomes something players will actively want to make use of to get the most satisfaction out of Dragon's Crown Pro . Highly recommended to anyone with a passing interest in beat 'em ups, but there is no denying that there is mild disappointment at the absence of new gameplay content, rendering it a hard sell to those that have beaten the game before. Don't like beat' em ups, though? Better off to pass, as the tedium does have a tendency to rear its ugly head before long, and that isn't something even Dragon's Crown can evolve the genre from.
