De SteelSeries Apex 5 biedt een uitstekende bouwkwaliteit met een aluminium bovenplaat en voelt solide aan. De hybride mechanische switches geven een prettige, tactiele feedback en zijn comfortabel voor langdurig gebruik. De RGB-verlichting is volledig per toets aanpasbaar en het OLED-display voegt handige functionaliteit toe. De magnetische polssteun verhoogt het comfort bij lang typen of gamen. Nadelen zijn de relatief hoge input-latency voor een bekabeld toetsenbord, wat minder ideaal is voor competitieve gamers. De kabel is niet afneembaar, wat het transport bemoeilijkt. Het typgeluid is vrij luid, waardoor het minder geschikt is voor stille werkplekken. Ook ontbreken speciale macrotoetsen voor MMO-spelers. Over het algemeen is het een veelzijdig toetsenbord met veel functies, maar met enkele duidelijke beperkingen voor specifieke gebruikers.

This is my first mechanical keyboard, I can't judge performance compared to other keyboards, but compared to my APEX300 membrane keyboard that I wore out after 9 years of good service, it's certain that mechanical is more solid than membrane. Not only for gaming, when typing text, the keystroke is pleasant and precise, the "click" confirms the keystroke. One star less for the GG Steelseries software, which deserves to be simplified. It's a gas factory, but if you like tinkering there are an infinite number of color settings and parameters on this keyboard.

Very suitable for everyday use, it can be customized quite well which is practical for the lighting effects of its setup, nothing more to say

As an FPS gamer, I use the Z, Q, S, and D keys very regularly. In the three years that I have had this keyboard, the Z key has stopped working properly twice. The first time was after two years, but I was lucky enough to still be under warranty and they replaced it for me. A year later, the same thing happened again. I think this type of keyboard is designed for this kind of use, so I don't understand why the famous "Z" key deteriorates so quickly. Overall, the keyboard is good but remains fragile for regular use.

Prima toetsenbord met een goede build kwaliteit en een prima gewicht; niet te zwaar maar zeker ook niet te licht. De bijgeleverde software is prima en stabiel. Het oled schermpje is van beperkt nut door het ontbreken van echt interessante toepassingen. De enige toepassing die voor veel Tweakers misschien interessant zou zijn is een system specs toepassing die de status van jouw computer kan weergeven (diverse statistieken) maar deze is helaas al langere tijd ingetrokken wegens beveiligingsissues. 3rd party software waarmee je het oled scherm kan aansturen heb ik helaas niet gevonden. Het toetsenbord maakt relatief veel geluid. Bijgeleverd is een wrist pad die met magneetjes aan het toetsenbord vastklikt. Dit is jammer genoeg een vrij kwetsbaar stuk kunsstof en een stofmagneet.
