They are physically comfy - low end nonexistent - rich and warm mids - the highs are not tinny. I wish I could say better things about these. The little head grips underneath the main bow of the phones is neat. I end up having to turn down the mids and highs in my cue so I can discern the bass in the headphones from the monitor/booth Steer clear of these unless you just want something to use as studio monitors. I spent $300 or more on these…and after 3 gigs I just went back to my shure IEMS

I love these headphones but, this is my second pair that have had the left ear just randomly die. It's very frustrating especially because they are not cheap. These ones had to have died in roughly a year, that's horrible. Please, just get something else.

To sum up the Audio-Technica ATH-A550Z, they’re an absurdly good price/quality neutral headphone. The amount of detail that they retrieve, the comfort they provide, and the sound quality they reproduce baffles me for them to only be $120. I couldn’t help but think of the Sennheiser HD650 the entire time I reviewed these. My reasoning behind this is the HD650’s honestly aren’t made super premiumly either, but it’s very apparent that the majority of the $500 they retail for was put towards the sound quality and not any other gimmicks or features. The ATH-A550Z followed suite in this concept and, at least in my opinion, made a very good decision in doing such.

I'm doing professional work and one off commissions. Here's what I can say with 5 years industry experience (which isn't a lot). You aren't going to get monitor quality, especially where the stereo field is concerned, of course. BUT there's never been a time where I haven't been able to infer or imply how it'd sound on higher end audio, ditto for low end audio. Very even frequency response down to 20hz. It's AT, after all. Best for their price range, easily, especially if you don't give a rat's about noise cancelling features that degrade your audio.
