De ABUS AirBreaker is een topklasse racehelm die vooral wordt geroemd om het extreem lage gewicht en de zeer sterke ventilatie. Dankzij diepe koelkanalen, Multi Speed-design en Forced Air Cooling blijft je hoofd ook bij klimmen en warme omstandigheden opvallend koel. Tegelijk weet de helm goede aerodynamische eigenschappen te bieden, wat hem populair maakt bij fanatieke wielrenners en profs. De pasvorm wordt vaak als erg comfortabel en stabiel beschreven, mede door het Zoom Ace verstelsysteem en de platte, stille straps. Ook de brilhouder aan de zijkant wordt positief genoemd. Daar staan een paar duidelijke nadelen tegenover: meerdere bronnen benadrukken dat er geen MIPS- of vergelijkbare rotatiebescherming wordt aangeboden, wat sommige kopers als gemis zien in deze prijsklasse. Daarnaast ligt de prijs beduidend hoger dan bij veel andere weghelmen. Tot slot kan de padconstructie met een schroef wat onhandig zijn bij schoonmaken of vervangen. Voor rijders die maximale ventilatie, laag gewicht en prestaties zoeken, is dit echter een zeer sterke keuze, mits je het ontbreken van extra veiligheidsfeatures en de hogere prijs accepteert.

Wanted a helmet with great air flow and this is perfect. Light, doesn’t look huge and has really effective tightening to fit comfortably and very light.

I bought this after one of the strap clamps on my Cannondale helmet snapped, rendering it difficult to wear comfortably. The Airbreaker is a nice fit & comfortable, and after trying MANY different helmets, this is the first I found that didn't interfere with the top of my Sungod glasses (other makes were pressing down on the top of glasses frame causing discomfort and pushing the glasses into a less than optimal position, rendering them useless. Only minor niggle is that my previous helmet came with a detachable plastic cover which covered over a lot of the air vents for winter riding, but a thick neck tube should suffice?

Helmet sizing/fit is very much down to individual preference/dimensions so it’s not that this helmet is bad it just didn’t suit my head shape. The lack of adjustability of the straps meant that I couldn’t make this a comfortable fit. I typically use kask helmets as the fit suits me and I have gone back to this brand only for that reason. Otherwise it’s a great looking helmet.
