Leica Q3 43

I was thinking of upgrading my old M240 but had a go with a friend's Q3 and immediately wanted one. 60mpxl and a super lens, compact size and a reliable AF makes it perfect for out-and-about travel. And there's just something about the 'weighting' of Leicas that feels perfect.

I love the fact that it takes me back to the days when you didn't have to make all settings through screen menus. It has put fun back into my photography. Bought it by part exchanging a high end Sony and five lenses, some of which were so heavy that I seldom carried them. Even the superb Sony 70-200 was almost never used. I also started to find changing lenses a bore. With film cameras it was seldom a danger. But with digital cameras like the Sony the chance of getting dirt on the sensor made it a hazard. Being careful meant taking time and missing shots. I now carry a tiny Olympus with a zoom to 300mm equivalent for anything the Leica Q's digital zoom cannot reach and the Q for shots that are closer than 90mm. A perfect very light combination. The 1.7 lens on the Q is unbelievably sharp.

Over the last 25 years I've moved from Olympus to Canon to Sony to Fuji and finally to Leica. The Leica Q3 a nice solid piece of engineering, superb resolution and great optics. Yes, it's expensive and it doesn't get close to the AF capabilities of most modern high end Japanese cameras, but it gives you time to think rather than spray! The Q3 interface is a great design feature - minimal buttons and simple menus. The 28mm lens is sharp f1.7 through f11 and the 60mp sensor provides more than adequate crop capability for 28, 35 and 50mm focal lengths. Dynamic range is excellent although more attuned to shadow recovery. All in all, a great camera and deal from WEX.

Legendary build quality. Great design. Relatively straightforward menu system and user interface. Best in class lens coupled with the same sensor as top of the range M11.

| upgraded to the Leica Q3 28 from the Leica Q2. I spent a lot of time considering was it worth the extra money for what I would get in return but so pleased that I went ahead. The image quality is stunning and the increased megapixels allows plenty of room for cropping, should you need to. Lovely and comfortable to carry around all day. Just love this camera.
