I had always wondered why people would spend so much on a tripod. After buying several travel type carbon models from the likes of Vanguard and MeFoto. Both a little lightweight for my gear. Useable in perfectly still conditions though. The Gitzo is absolutely wonderful to use. It's really not a bother to lug around. BUT. It displays more vibration in wind than my Manfrotto 190 Aluminium AND opening and closing the leg sections is nowhere near as smooth and silky as my Vanguard. So while I do like using it for its height . And i like the lack of centre column. I really don't think its worth the money. The ball head is brilliant btw.(GH3382QD) PS. I bumped into another photographer recently with exactly the same tripod and head, and she concurred with my feelings about the smoothness of the leg operation. Not really good enough.

Pros- Light weight Cons- Cheap plastic parts inside (easily break), lost all the feet in two months, piece was missing from leg so leg comes off when opening (they say missing pieces are not covered), Both lower grips fell off, Leg cracked, Extender piece is too flimsy not usuably for any large prime lens. Legs no longer lock tight. Ive had this tripod for a year.

Well made, sturdy, nice to work with. The leg lock are quick and solid. I love using this tripod.

Over all a quite good tripod. Some things are not good in my estimation. 1) for this expense, the tripod should have a bubble level 2) for this expense, the tripod should have at least one foam padded leg 3) I have repeatedly had the system that attaches the center post lock up so that I cannot reattach the post, which means that effectively it can only be used as one or the other; with post attached you cannot use the tripod all the way down to ground level or with post detached (so why pay for a post?) For me I must be able to use the tripod flattened to ground level so the extendable post is not usable. Earlier when I had this lock od I sent it to Gitzo for them to fix but now I've had it long enough that they would likely charge me...
