Garmin Marine Mount Zwart GPS 12H / 73 / GPSMAP 78 / 78s / 78sc

We replaced our six year old gps of same model with this one. Exactly the same, works great.

I thought that having spent over $200 on this item, that it would be usable out of the box. It was completely useless without purchasing maps from Garmin. Im sure it has alot of potential, but for the price I was highly disappointed. Would not recommend.

The water resistant rating of this product is totally bogus. I even went as far as gorilla taped the two flaps down in the back that people mentioned were flimsy(they are), and water still entered the device. It is still working, thankfully, but now I'm left with $300 unit that I have to figure out how to modify to make water resistant like it was advertised that it was. Very disappointing for garmin, if it isn't water resistant do not market it like it is.

I purchased the product to replace my old handheld 76c (circa 2003) preloaded with Raster charts. It was a workhorse and the detailed maps were small version of NOAA charts. Very useful device that could be loaded with WP etc. I purchased the 78sc and was disappointed that the preloaded charts had no detail, like buoy markings! All I had was a giant location marker on the equivalent of a small scale chart, because making scale larger resulted in loss of any useful landmarks. Tech support was flip and said to me "what do you expect with a handheld and limited memory". Over a decade later? MORE MEMORY 78sc is not a replacement for the 76c and is unusable as a handheld marine chart plotter. Furthermore, the screen size is even smaller than the older model. Would not recommend this device for marine use nor waste Amazon's time to restock this device.

Excellent hand-held gps. Batteries last from 2 to 3 hours depending on your screen settings mainly. Easy to use, easy to carry, definitely water and rain resistant.
