Sigma 35mm f/2.0 DG DN C (Sony E)

I bought this lens hoping to buy a sharp compact and fast prime for my A1 After the first shots I thought something was as wrong with the autofocus The lens is simply not sharper st any aperture than my 28-60mm zoom nor of course of the 25-70 GM2 two lenses that I own and even compared to the tamron 35-150 and 20-40 this is not better What to say? Maybe sigma sends special lenses to reviewers and selles bad copies to customers? Had a similar experience with the 30mm for mft theoretically sharper than other but practically not at naked eye without resolution charts

Prima lens, zeer degelijk gebouwd en zeer goede beeldkwaliteit. Enige (kleine) nadelen zijn gewicht (maar is goed in balans op mijn A7R2) en feit dat diafragmaring niet vastgezet kan worden. Je hebt dus niet veel grip bij het wisselen van lens en altijd even checken of hij nog in A staat. De magnetische lensdop is een onverwacht groot success; lens is nu net een paar mm korter en ik kan hem daardoor makkelijker uit mijn heuptas halen.

Objectief nu 3 weken in bezit. Het is echt een metalen kwaliteitsproduct met een handige ring waarmee je snel handmatig in kunt stellen. Zoals te verwachten is de beeldkwaliteit met F/2.0 wat soft maar nog steeds erg mooi, ook qua kleuren. Vanaf F/2.8 is het beeld op zijn scherpst. Ondanks het gemiddelde brandpunt is er door de sensormaat nog steeds goed te spelen met de scherptediepte. Ik gebruik dit objectief met een Panasonic S5 camera. Wat mij opvalt is dat in de standen C1 en C2 (scenario instellingen) de handmatige ring voor diafragma niet altijd werkt. Instellen werkt wel altijd via het voorste instelwiel van de camera. Misschien een firmwareding? TLDR: prachtig metalen kwaliteitsproduct met een geweldige beeldkwaliteit.

Make no mistake, this is a beautiful lens that has a really strong performance. Unusually, the logic applied to the design of the optics seems to have fallen slightly less comfortably when we look at some of the minor, niggling, more general design issues. I would ditch the magnetic lens cap, put in a depth of field scale, add a lock on the aperture A setting and put in a switch to de-click the aperture ring. Then equalise the filter size across the I range and we have one brilliant lens in every respect. It's very close to ideal anyway and with its all-metal construction and very fine optical performance (albeit with in-camera corrections switched on if necessary), I don't have any hesitation in giving the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary the accolade of Highly Recommended.
