50/50 chance computer will see it with or without drivers installed. Randomly drops connection during moderately heavy usage.

I'll start buy saying as a usb hub with built in nic, it works fine. But I was lead to this page for a claim that the ethernet would work with the Nintendo Switch, sort answer it doesn't. The model on the product page without a usb hub may, but the one with the hub does not.

I've had good experience with Trendnet products, until this. Not only are the Realtek drivers from the mfgr. web site hard to install -- they didn't digitally sign them, which I guess is partly Realtek's fault -- but glitchy to the point of being unusable. The generic MS version (no signature issues) aren't completely reliable either. The Ethernet connection will seem to work fine for anywhere from 4 to 48 hours, then drop out, usually in the middle of the something important whether "strenuous" or not. Consulting Event Viewer revealed nothing. Depending on the driver choice it would then vanish from the ncpa.cpl window and require you to reboot to use the connection again. My adapter's model H/W revision is 2.0R, by the way. I have an ASIX-based Gigabit adapter that has never given me such grief. Eventually giving up on the LAN features I decided to skip that and just make use of the USB 3.0 hub-- which was just as flaky, dropping out during copying files, etc. What a waste of time!

I bought this product several months ago for an Asus laptop that didn't have an ethernet connection and wasn't getting good wifi in a room. It's very handy because you can use this box directly for ethernet (gigabit), without needing to use the optional power supply. You can also connect low power USB devices. I have not tested the data rates, but I have not noticed any particular problems. And when I need to connect external USB3 hard drives, I use the power supply. In fact, in this case, you end up with quite a few cables on your desk... You can't see it on the picture, but the optional power supply plugs into a female socket next to the 10cm "small extension cable" (male usb in the top right of the picture). So I'm happy with this purchase.
