I had an older HP G42 laptop. Unfortunately, HP is one of those manufacturers that puts whitelists in their BIOS to force you to buy or only use certain items. Example - I cannot upgrade to an Intel g/n 2.4/5GHz wifi card because they are blocked. Normally I would hack the BIOS but this BIOS is also RSA signed and prevents that. Very annoying. The old Broadcom card was very slow. Installing this card doubled my wifi speeds. It seems to be the real item. If it is a knockoff, it works very well. Even when I buy a brand new laptop, I will normally buy a newer, more cutting edge wifi card online after doing research and making sure it is compatible/possible. This card is only a 2.4GHz b/g/n type, yet it gives you excellent bang for the buck. If you do have better circumstances (more selection because BIOS is not "locked") then look for a dual band wifi card giving you 2.4 and 5 GHz.
