The Google Pixel 2 shows Google now has clear vision for its flagship smartphones. The design is distinctive and has character, the camera continues to be outstanding, and the software it very intelligent. However, those bezels can't be ignored, so we'd go for the Pixel 2 XL.

This second-generation effort fulfills that promise with not only the best-in-class photos, but also dual front-facing speakers and water-resistance. It's a great size, but you'll need to be okay with its dated looks and the fact that there’s no headphone jack.

The Pixel 2 is a boring phone until you turn it on. The uninspiring hardware melts away to present you with a bleeding edge vision of the Android future, with machine learning fully integrated. It’s not quite there yet, but this is where we are heading. Despite being outdone by yet more wizardry on the Pixel 3, the Pixel 2 still has an amazing camera – debatably only the newer Pixel beats it. If you want a smartphone to fawn over and make your friends jealous with, you won’t want the Pixel 2. But it’s faster than most other Android phones and will receive Android updates for months more on end.
