Combat Chess /PC

Windows 10 installed game and it doesnt run. Not worth it it troubleshoot this type of game.

The game is working fine in window mode, but has transparency issues in fullscreen mode: The overlay windows of e.g. the move history start to flicker when being opened as overlay to the fullscreen programm. There must be something wrong with the the rendering engine on modern hardware. Gog's technical support tried to help but could not solve the problem either (at least for me and my hardware). As I bought the game on sale for less then 1€, there is no need for a refund. I hope the developer finds and implements a fix but I have little hope as it would not pay off for a developer or publisher to spend money fixing issues on a not-so-popular 1€ game. I liked it when I was younger and would still rate it 3/5 if it wasn't for the fullscreen issues. One can't scale the game in windowed mode - so one either has to play in a small window or in a buggy fullscreen mode.

Basically it is chess. The computer is playing ok. The animations are neither fun nor inspired. I turned them off completely as they are just taking time and are distracting.

This game has filled many a summer afternoons for me. It's graphics (at the time) were impeccable. If you enter this game expecting Crysis like graphics, boy are you in for a treat. It has a gimmickiness to it which makes it enjoyable. As someone has stated, if you easily get bored of gimmicks or don't enjoy subtle nuances, then this is not your game. However, it represented so much more to me: a better understanding of the great game of chess, a program using enticing graphics, and seemingly endless hours of mind challenging fun for an 11 year old. Do yourselves a favor and buy it - it's incredibly cheap.

YES, IT'S OLD, BUT ANIMATIONS AND FIGURES ARE WONDERFULL. I'M NEVER GET BORED LIKE WITH SOME OTHER CHESS GAMES. I ALWAYS WANTED CHESS GAME LIKE THIS ONE AND NOW I HAVE ONE. NO DESIRE FOR SOMETHING NEWER.
