Contra: Rogue Corps is a divisive twin-stick shooter that moves away from the classic Contra side-scrolling formula. While it offers weapon customization, RPG upgrade mechanics, and multiplayer options that some players find enjoyable, it suffers from significant drawbacks. The graphics are consistently criticized as severely outdated, resembling PS2-quality visuals. Gameplay becomes repetitive quickly, with bullet-sponge enemies and a frustrating weapon cooldown system. Missions are lengthy without checkpoints, and the in-game economy makes purchasing upgrades unnecessarily grindy. However, if you lower expectations and focus on the chaotic action with friends, there's potential fun to be had, especially once you unlock better weapons and learn to juggle them effectively.
