Columbia UK 3.10 To Yuma

When notorious outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) is captured, a posse is thrown together - including penniless rancher Dan Evans (Bale) - to escort him to the town of Contention, where the 3:10 train to Yuma prison will arrive.

This is the type of film I like to watch repeatedly. Multiple viewings bring out the details not caught on previous viewings. Ive pretty much had it on continuous loop over the weekend. Only a western by locale, the heart of the story is much more about human needs, strengths, frailties than it is about cowboys and Indians. As a matter of fact, there is not one Indian in the picture. Basically a tale of two men on the opposite sides of law and morality. Although Ive seen this film before, I have a new appreciation for it with my latest viewing session - dont know why, it is what it is. I now look forward to (re)watching the 2007 remake, which I havent seen in a while. I hope it can offer a fraction of the entertainment of its predecessor. Highly recommended to all, not just fans of the Western genre. 8/10

I watched this on a 120inch screen projected from viewsonic 727 (upscaled to 4K resolution), viewed from a relatively close distance of 10feet away. The image was slightly variable in the range from excellent to absolutely stunning. Some of the closeup black-and-photography is absolutely jaw dropping. I'm commenting to assure people that the image quality is first rate, and definitely a huge upgrade over any previous DVD. At no point did I feel that the bluray was lacking enough information to project at a relatively large size. I would rate the image as about the best I've seen from black and white (to my eyes it had the edge on Casablanca). I'd not seen the film before but found it immensly gripping psychological study. It has aged incredibly well and stands comparison with some of the very fine, more recent adaptions of Elmore Leonard stories (Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Justified).

Really nice, psychological western. This is Glenn Ford's movie and he doesn't disappoint - but the whole cast is great. The only part I didn't think was quite right, was at the beginning when Dan Evan's son criticizes him, it was to overt for me. The song at the beginning and end was icing on the cake and just fantastic.

A good western story with lots of action. The ending (and actually some other parts as well) seemed a bit unrealistic, to be honest, but it's not that implausible that I couldn't believe it if I wanted to.
