Smaug the dragon has risen from his slumber and been unleashed upon an unsuspecting Laketown, leaving his vast hoard up for grabs. Drawn by ancient grudges and the promise of gold by the tonne, a quintet of mighty armies descend on the dwarven city of Erebor to battle it out for wealth, power and the fate of Middle-earth.

Another great movie and a good way to end it all. You get action with stunning special effects throughout the whole movie until about the last 15 minutes being tame. The AQ and PQ is reference quality and as good as it gets. For starters on extras you get a digital copy and DVD. On the movie disc the only extra is 6 minutes but there is another BluRay included with more extras. Those extras total about 53 minutes which is the only bad thing about this purchase. You have too much wasted space left on the disc especially for the last movie of the whole story. It should have included about 2 to 3 times as many extras to wrap this up but the movie and AQ/PQ quality make this a great purchase.

We finally come to the epic conclusion of the Hobbit Trilogy in this extended edition. This chapter wastes no time as it is an all out battle to destroy the enemy and restore some peace to middle earth. There are several extended scenes that enhance some of the action while only a few additional new scenes are added. Regardless of your taste for this particular story and or trilogy as a whole, The Hobbit is a fantastic series and matches well with the nice set-up to the superior Lord of the Rings story. Warner's blu is near perfect with a sharp picture and very good sound mix. Extra's to the hills as expected. Bottom line a must for fans and fantasy buffs too.

The Battle of the Five Armies is the weakest entry in The Hobbit trilogy, which also happens to make it the weakest film in Jackson's six-chapter Rings saga. Alas, the 164-minute extended cut doesn't help matters all that much. Neither version amounts to a terrible film. It's just all rather uninspired, with a burdensome series of showdowns that provide closure but little else. Ah well. The good news is the cast is terrific, Jackson's battle scenes are reasonably exciting, and several memorable character beats help it cross the finish line with some dignity. Warner's Extended Edition Blu-ray release is much better, thankfully, with an excellent video presentation, powerful DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track, and more than ten hours of special features. (The bulk of which are stronger than the film itself.)
