Dvd Macbeth (2015)

Do you need Kino Lorber's two-disc set if you already have in your library this two-disc set that Olive Films produced in 2016? Kino Lorber's two-disc set gives you two versions of the film with overture and exit music, both newly remastered in 4K at Paramount Pictures. While there are still plenty of source limitations on both versions of the film, I think that on this release they have the most attractive organic appearance. Admittedly, the difference is quite small, but it is something that purists will appreciate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Having already murdered King Duncan and his closest ally, Banquo, 11th-century Scottish usurper Macbeth becomes so steeped in tyranny that he fails to notice the effect their crimes are having on his scheming queen.

Informed by three witches that he will become King of Scotland, warrior thane Macbeth prevaricates in pursuit of his ambitions and is driven to regicide and tyranny by his ruthless wife.

“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.” Three weird women prophesy victorious warrior Macbeth (Fassbender) will be king of Scotland, sowing the seeds of treachery, murder and madness in the ambitious noble and his lady (Cotillard).

Orson Welles' version of Shakespeare's Macbeth is an excellent adaptation of one of the playwright's finest works. The movie is rich with macabre atmosphere, it features some absolutely gorgeous production design and it makes great us of a very talented cast. Olive Films have rolled out the red carpet for this movie with their new two disc Signature Series reissue, presenting both cuts of the movie in great shape and with a very nice selection of supplements as well. Highly recommended.
