Having never seen any of the original incarnations of the iconic series or earlier films, I went in with an open mind. The movie itself is a bit mixed with horror/drama & comedy which is usually hard to pull off but Depp is in top form, Michele Pfeiffer eats up her scenes each time she's in one and the rest of the cast carries the story well. The tongue in cheek humor is spot on if you catch them and the antics are nothing original but fun nonetheless. The movie is not great by any means but its another solid one from team Burton/Depp. Warner's blu offers up a solid PQ & AQ presentation along with a small amount of extra's. Glad I only paid four bucks for this on black friday!

Dolletjes! Tim Burton en Johnny Depp werken voor de achtste keer samen aan een filmproject: het is helaas al lang geen nieuws meer waar je slapeloze nachten van krijgt. Recente collaboraties als CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY en ALICE IN WONDERLAND bleken mooi maar hol, en bovendien is het aantal malle typetjes dat Depp zich kan permitteren gelimiteerd. Gelukkig schept de trailer van DARK SHADOWS verwachting, want die toont een rurale maar gotische setting bomvol pastelkleurcontrast en een bleke Johnny Depp: dit lijkt op werk waar het duo groot mee werd.
