Sony Alpha A6500 Body

Very nice little camera- I did a lot of research when looking to buy and it too me a long time to decide on what to buy. I wanted something that had the ability to produce dslr quality pictures but was portable enough to be used quite a lot. Generally I’ve been impressed with the actual camera. The pictures from RAW are generally very good but it really does depend on the lens you have available- and that is one of the slight sticking points- the Sony e mount lens are very expensive. Perhaps something I should have taken more into account. The menu also takes a bit of getting used to- the touch screen is not something I have used often but it is not overly responsive. The LCD view screen is surprisingly good considering it’s not a real view. Overall, it’s a good camera. Photography is a big business now but would liked to have had a bit more flexibility with getting lenses that didn’t cost a fortune.

Looking to see if I could upgrade (particularly 5-axis stabilization) before investing in better lenses, within Sony system I've been using last 4 years. VERY surprisingly saw almost no improvement with the a6500 over my basic a6000. (OK, so I was still shooting using same glass I use most 55-210). RETURNED it and now am looking into fellow classmates reco's re: Olympus+Lumix (better glass, interchangeable across maker) & Fuji (no tradeoff on MP vs prior two). ABT was very accommodating, as always, in taking the return.

Fantastic overall camera, quick and accurate autofocus, touch screen works well, and quality is up there. Low light performance is exceptional though I try to stay as low as possible on ISO to avoid noise. Camera is light but feels nice in hand and feels premium. The suite of features end up giving alot of QoL improvments over some others too!

Awesome focus. Great with FE lenses in an APS-C sensor setting

Sadly, Sony refused to honour the ‘Cash Back’ scheme so I returned the camera. Having used this camera before, I know that it works well using the correct Sony lenses. However, image correction is done within the electronics of the camera - not the lens. It really is an expensive instamatic type of point and shoot camera - great for the amateur but not for the professional. Pros: Good in low light. Portable - good size. Good to excellent video quality. Shoots 4K. There are many good accessories out there which are ‘must haves’ with this camera. Cons: It works better with dedicated Sony lenses - expensive. Eats through batteries. Difficult menu system and general ergonomics - it is an old camera design now. Cropped image size. Not for stills type photography. Personally, I prefer to stick to dedicated camera manufacturers.
