De Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 in maat 275/35R19 XL 100V is een premium winterband voor sportieve en zware auto’s. Kopers en onafhankelijke tests prijzen vooral de uitstekende grip en remprestaties op sneeuw en ijs, gecombineerd met een stabiele, precieze handling op droge wegen. Ook op nat wegdek doet de band het sterk, met goede weerstand tegen aquaplaning, al scoren sommige rivalen net beter in laterale aquaplaning en nat remmen. Veel bronnen melden bovendien een comfortabele en relatief stille rit voor een prestatiegerichte winterband, samen met lage slijtage en een hoge kilometrage. De belangrijkste keerzijde is de hoge prijs; dit is één van de duurdere opties in zijn segment. Daarnaast wordt soms genoemd dat de band wat hard kan aanvoelen over naden en oneffenheden. The tyres were used to drive from London to Lech in Austria in February when there was a lot of snow on the roads in the Alps. The Pilot Alpin 5 were on the front wheels of my car and 265/30 - 20 Pilot Alpin PA4 were on the rear axle. I would have preferred to have Pilot Alpin 5 on the rear axle but they are not available in this size.
