De Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 is een high-performance winterband die veel wordt geroemd om zijn sterke grip in kou, regen en sneeuw. Testrapporten en gebruikerservaringen benadrukken het precieze stuurgedrag, korte remwegen en de goede controle bij sportief rijden, zelfs op krachtige auto’s. Daarnaast wordt vaak genoemd dat de band relatief langzaam slijt, waardoor de totale levensduur hoog is voor een UHP-winterband. Veel rijders vinden hem ook stiller en comfortabeler dan eerdere generaties. Tegelijk zijn er duidelijke kanttekeningen: op glad ijs is de grip slechts gemiddeld voor de klasse, en de band voelt wat stevig aan, waardoor comfort niet op het niveau van zachtere winterbanden ligt. Ook ligt de aanschafprijs meestal duidelijk hoger dan bij veel concurrenten. Voor kopers die vooral waarde hechten aan veilige, dynamische winterprestaties op droog, nat en besneeuwd wegdek en bereid zijn meer te betalen, is dit echter een van de sterkste opties, met als belangrijkste minpunten de prestaties op ijs, het stevige karakter en de prijs.

The tyres were used to drive from London to Lech in Austria in February when there was a lot of snow on the roads in the Alps. The Pilot Alpin 5 were on the front wheels of my car and 265/30 - 20 Pilot Alpin PA4 were on the rear axle. I would have preferred to have Pilot Alpin 5 on the rear axle but they are not available in this size.
