De Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 in maat 235/40R18 XL 95V staat bekend als een premium winterband met een zeer uitgebalanceerde performance. Rijtijdtesten en gebruikersreviews noemen vooral de sterke grip op natte, besneeuwde en koude droge wegen, gecombineerd met een precieze stuurrespons die goed past bij sportieve en premium auto's. Tegelijkertijd wordt de band vaak geprezen om het lage geluidsniveau en de goede rijcomfort, wat hem geschikt maakt voor langere winterritten. Ook de slijtage is relatief laag, waardoor de band meerdere seizoenen meegaat en interessant is voor veelrijders en EV-rijders. Er zijn wel enkele kanttekeningen: in extreem diepe sneeuw of zware slush zijn er concurrerende banden met nog iets betere laterale grip en aquaplaningreserves, en sommige bestuurders ervaren de band als wat stevig over ruwe wegdelen. The tyres were used to drive from London to Lech in Austria in February when there was a lot of snow on the roads in the Alps. The Pilot Alpin 5 were on the front wheels of my car and 265/30 - 20 Pilot Alpin PA4 were on the rear axle. I would have preferred to have Pilot Alpin 5 on the rear axle but they are not available in this size.
