The grip and cushioning is as expected with speedgoats but I feel like the sizing is weird for the 7s. Even Hokas website says to go up a half size, so before purchasing I tried on my normal size and a half size bigger and ultimately went up a half size but they just feel off to me. It's a shame because I spent 165 on them and I don't feel they are as awesome as my previous speedgoats. Something changed with the shoe and I don't know what but I'm not sure I would buy another pair going forward.

Hoka Speedgoat shoes are plug and play. There is no break in period. They are comfy from the get go. They are grippy on wet slanted rocks! The only down fall is that the toe tab inevitably starts detaching at about mile 80 if you are using these for long distance backpacking just know that the toe tabs detach and live with it or get some shoe goo and duct tape to fix the issue. I got about 300 miles out of my last pair with about 10 to 16 mile days on the Appalachian trail.

Break-in? Who needs a break in. I put these shoes on and walked 4 miles with out an issue. I’ll continue to break them in for my long hike but so far loving what I’ve got.

These shoes feel so comfortable, it’s like someone custom fit them to your feet. I felt like Spider-Man with the grips on these things.

Got two pairs and the fit slightly is different between the two pairs. I think the reason they feel a bit shorter than other Hoka's has to do with the coating encasing the toe area- very rigid compared to the mesh one often experiences. Haven't worn enough to have other feedback.
